Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Weight loss medication mimics a naturally occurring satiety hormone in our bodies. When we eat, a hormone is released from our intestines and sends signals for our brain to realize the stomach is full.  The medication acts on several areas to regulate hunger and fullness cues, leading to decreased appetite and feeling full sooner so you are not able to over-eat.

Weight loss of 1-2lbs per week is expected. Some individuals will lose up to 10-15lbs the first month, however the average weight loss is up to 8lbs per month.

The most common side effect of weight loss medication is nausea which is often remedied by eating small, frequent meals. Another common side effect is constipation. Most side effects occur during the first few days after starting the medication and subside as the body adjusts to the medication.

To be considered for weight loss medication you must have a BMI of 27 or greater. Other health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes can help qualify for insurance approval as long as your BMI is 27 or greater. Individuals with BMI of 30 or greater qualify without other health risks.

Yes. The nurse practitioner will determine your eligibility and may provide your first 4 weeks of medication during your first visit.

Personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 should not be prescribed certain weight loss medications. Weight loss medication should not be taken during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if planning to become pregnant. Talk to your provider about all of your medical conditions.

It is a possibility that your insurance may cover weight loss medication. After your consultation, the prescription will be called in to the pharmacy of your choice. The pharmacy will need your insurance information in order to determine your cost. We recommend checking with your insurance carrier prior to your visit. If your insurance does not cover the cost of weight loss medication, we can discuss a private pay option at your visit.

Yes! We accept Flex Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) cards as long as they have a Visa, Master Card, or Discover symbol on the card. The card must be active and not expired.
